Spotlighting biosecurity is about shining a light on the key threats and topics that matter most to Tauranga Moana. By staying ahead of emerging and current biosecurity issues, we give our members and the wider community the opportunity to engage early, be informed and be prepared.

We do this in two main ways, firstly through events, featuring speakers and experts in their fields from both here in Tauranga Moana and across New Zealand. Whether it's a new pest on the horizon or an evolving response to an existing threat, our events connect our community with the people and knowledge at the forefront of biosecurity.

Our flagship event is the Biosecurity Symposium, a full-day programme featuring expert speakers across biosecurity threats, responses, innovation and on-the-ground fieldwork. It is one of the highlights of the TMBC calendar and a not-to-be-missed event for anyone passionate about protecting our region.

The second way is through advocacy. We’re a membership-based organisation made up of both businesses and individuals. We believe TMBC is well positioned to provide a strong, collective voice on the key issues affecting biosecurity in the Bay of Plenty, while also championing the importance of biosecurity nationally and advocating for the long-term investment and commitment needed to protect New Zealand into the future. We recognise that our members represent a diverse range of organisations, sectors and interests, each bringing their own perspectives and priorities. While there will not always be a common position on every issue, there are areas where our shared interests provide an opportunity for TMBC to advocate collectively and make a meaningful difference. This diversity is one of our strengths and gives TMBC a credible voice in discussions about the future of biosecurity.
