Welcome to our newest TMBC members, Better Biosecurity Solutions

We are pleased to announce our newest TMBC members, Tourism Bay of Plenty and Xerra. The major focus of Xerra’s work is to help analysts and decision-makers tackle complex challenges in New Zealand’s maritime domain, for example they are developing software and new methods to:

  • Detect non-reporting or ‘dark vessels’ to gain insights into illegal fishing activities;
  • Identify potential vectors of COVID-19 transmission through vessel history analysis and the detection of non-reporting small vessels; and
  • Identify biosecurity threats before vessels reach our nation’s territorial water.

Tourism Bay of Plenty recognises that tourism is an important part of the biosecurity landscape. Their globally recognised strategic vision Te Hā Tāpoi, The Love of Tourism ensures that the visitor experience offered in the Bay of Plenty helps our natural environments flourish while also providing economic benefits of tourism back into our community. By joining TMBC, both organisations hope to enhance the impact of their activities by learning from and collaborating with our wide and diverse network.

Welcome to the network!
