In what must be one of the whackiest and worrisome emerging biosecurity trends, online sellers are hawking Giant African Snails (GAS) as pets!
Biosecurity New Zealand officers are keeping their eyes peeled for the pest following increased social media interest. Luckily, it’s hard to miss because it can grow up to a massive 20cm long.
Native to Eastern Africa, it is one of the most damaging snails in the world, feasting on more than 500 types of plants and even paint and stucco.
