Community Tackling Unwanted Wilding Pines

It’s estimated 25% of New Zealand will be covered in unwanted wilding pines within 30 years if their spread isn’t stopped.

A community partnership project in Ruawāhia/Mt Tarawera near Rotorua has taken on the challenge, to stop the spread in its tracks.

With funding from the National Wilding Conifer Control Programme, led by Biosecurity New Zealand, their mahi (work) is protecting the rare plants and animals found in this unique volcanic and sub-alpine landscape.
