Biosecurity New Zealand conducted a survey of Tauranga Harbour from the 14-18th of February that looks for non-native marine organisms that could impact our environment. No new-to-New Zealand species were detected. 

New and rare fish species have been discovered by Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council scientists in the Nukuhou catchment. Further eDNA sampling across the Ōhiwa is planned for later this year and will look at 10-20 more sites. 

TMBC is running a campaign asking Bay of Plenty kids to create a piece of artwork that captures the importance of our kauri trees and why we need to protect these ancient forest giants.

Biosecurity NZ has released a new web tool so people can report suspected exotic pests and diseases online. From their website, users are guided through the reporting process and can submit photos, locations, and other information.
